5 Must-Do Alpine Getaways this Summer

Dreaming of fresh mountain air, breathtaking scenery, and an action-packed holiday? The French Alps are the perfect destination. Hiking, yoga, dog sledding, snowshoeing, skiing… everything is on hand to help you escape the city. But where should you go in the Alps? Here are the 5 unmissable getaways for exploring the Alpine region! Discover all our sporting holidays for this summer.

    The Tour du Mont Blanc

Widely regarded as one of the most spectacular hikes in the Alps, the Tour du Mont Blanc winds through three countries — France, Italy, and Switzerland — treating walkers to a breathtaking display of glaciers and towering peaks. Starting from Chamonix, you’ll pass through Les Houches, take the cable car from Bellevue station, and descend to Les Contamines-Montjoie. From there, you’ll cross the Col du Bonhomme towards Les Chapieux, then tackle the Col de la Seigne to discover the Monte Bianco refuge. Continuing through the valley, you’ll follow the Val Ferret up to the Bonatti refuge, then push on to the Grand Col Ferret before descending towards La Fouly. The hike concludes with a traverse of the Bovine alpine pastures, a descent to Trient, and a final magnificent stage through the Aiguilles Rouges nature reserve, home to the pristine Lac Blanc.

    The Ascent of Gran Paradiso

The Gran Paradiso, located in Italy, is celebrated for its sweeping glaciers and gentle slopes, making it a legendary yet accessible summit for amateur mountaineers. Looking for a challenge, a breath of pure mountain air, and the thrill of high-altitude landscapes? This magical ascent to 4,000 metres is the perfect choice. The adventure begins in the Valsavarenche valley in Italy, with a peaceful climb to the first stop, the Chabod refuge at 2,750 metres. The highlight of the expedition is reaching the crown of this National Park — Gran Paradiso itself, standing at 4,061 metres.

An Introduction to Mountaineering on the Mont Blanc Massif

Explore the Alps while learning the art of mountaineering — it’s entirely possible with this five-day course in the heart of the Mont Blanc massif, near the Orny mountain hut. You’ll develop the core skills needed for mountaineering and high-altitude climbing in a programme designed as a comprehensive introduction, guiding you towards independence on moderate-level routes. Each day is dedicated to practical sessions on rock, snow, and ice, as well as summit ascents. The programme covers crampon techniques on snow and ice, roped glacier travel, rock climbing, abseiling, rescue manoeuvres, route preparation, map reading, and navigation. Everything you need to become a true mountain adventurer!

    Mountain Biking

Downhill biking, mountain biking, electric mountain biking… In French Alpine resorts, several ski lifts remain in operation throughout the summer, giving you direct access to trail starting points, along with free shuttle services. In the resort, you’ll find mountain bike and e-bike schools with qualified instructors, as well as a wide range of rental and repair shops.

    High-Altitude Hiking

Discover the mountains from a whole new perspective, with ski lifts offering free access all summer long. Perfect for families and those looking for tailor-made outings, these lifts provide easy access to panoramic trails and high-mountain landscapes that everyone can enjoy. Plan a variety of hikes by starting from altitude or skipping the strenuous climbs, and enjoy unforgettable walks through the heart of the French Alps at your own pace.
